CREAMSODA CHAPTER 2 PROGRESS UPDATE
Chapter 2, my promise made to be complete in February, although now its april and i still dont have anything major to show, i could make this into something to do with being occupied by schoolwork, which would be partially true, but the fact is, im simply too lazy for the ambitions that i have set, what i will do however, is create a short demo that i am almost certain will be available, somewhere in the next 12 weeks or something, and emphasis on the "or something".
I am not sure how close to finishing chapter 2 i am, its hard to put a percentage on it, but my best assessment is that i currently have about 20% of the content made, and maybe 8% that is actually playable in a row from the end of chapter 1, although this could change and i might just end up making the chapter much shorter than i anticipated, but while i am having trouble with pace i dont think im having trouble with ideas, and i actually think the second chapter will be much, much better than the first, and also probably about three times as long.
One issue i have "always" had when making creamsoda is balancing the difficulty, not that i have any issue making the game fair, i test the battles about 20 times in a row and i am positive that every fight in the game can be completed not only consistently, but consistently without having to use any crisps.
The issue with the difficulty is that frankly, i think the game is too easy in its current state, at the moment i think you would be hard pressed to find someone who couldn't beat the game, and most people would have some level of difficulty but eventually break through to the end, which some would consider a success in balancing their game, but in particular for me im torn between making the game extremely challenging or making it in a way where people wont be encouraged to quit playing, which you can see with alot of the added context clues for items and what you are supposed to do, particularly in the prison, which i dislike for reasons i cant articulate.
i considered adding secret bosses with higher levels of difficulty than the rest of the game but that wouldn't be satisfying to me, so instead i will be developing a second version of the game along side, or perhaps after the first one, that i would call "CREAMSODA HARDCORE" or something along those lines, this wont be represented in game as a difficulty option, with normal and hardcore mode being separate options on the start screen, but actually a different downloadable file, and possibly page, to avoid confusion and hassle on my end.
I won't go into too much detail about what exactly im going to do, but effectively it should be looked at less like a traditional difficulty slider and more like, a version of creamsoda from an alternate universe where i had slightly more experience making it, and i also decided to make it significantly harder. It would definitely, once finished, be something i would recommend players who enjoyed the normal mode to try out afterwards.
